In awareness, family, Life

Stop and Experience the Real World

It’s been something I’ve struggled with and it’s been the subject of a lot of posts lately. Presence. How many of us are guilty of this constant multitasking and constant diversion? When was the last time you gave your full attention to your child with no agenda but to fully engage with him or her?

I notice it with my co-workers, my lover, and myself. How often are we distracted by social media, games, and all the gadgets in life?

Am I the only one tired of distracted people walking around like zombies looking at their phones? I’ve encountered it several times, where I’ve seen parents walking with their kid, so engrossed in their smartphone that they are about to walk into the intersection without looking up. Is that the kind of awareness and presence we want to model for the next generation?

Research tends to suggest that going out into nature makes you feel good, manages stress, and reconnects you to a present state of mind, where you can feel all your senses. I think the video from Jane Goodall was really inspirational to me. Check it out, so relevant to my post and state of mind. Learning to unplug and experience is what makes us #HUMAN
